Barcelona sports director, Soler: We can't block a player named to Spain's NT
Soler: What we claim is that EuroLegue players have the same rights of the NBA players
Sports director of Barcelona, Albert Soler, talked about the topic of the new FIBA Calendar and the windows for National Team in November and February.
FEB president Jorge Garbajosa stated that Scariolo will name to the National Team the best players available, included the athletes from EuroLeague teams.
“We can’t stop a player who is named to the Spanish National Team” Soler told El Mundo Deportivo. “The law is not the same for all of the players, each country has a different regulation. For us the problem is with Spanish players that respond to the “Ley del Deporte (Law of Sports). We hope FEB, FIBA and EuroLeague will reach an agreement and don’t put on the clubs and the players the decision to go to the National Team” Soler added. “The club will always protect its players. We already told FEB that we don’t want to transfer the problem to the players. And we told FEB that for us it is important to have the Spanish players available for all the EuroLeague games. FEB has the solution. The problem is for the Spanish federation. What we claim is that EuroLegue players have the same rights of the NBA players (NBA players won’t join the National Teams at least in the first two windows)” Soler ended.
A solution could be to allow players to join the National Team for each second game of the 1st two windows.
The first games of the first two windows (in November and February) are on the same dates of EuroLeague games. While the second games will be played during the weekend with all European leagues that won’t games in those days.
