The game will be played in Tenerife on September 24
Basketball fans in Europe, in the Americas and around the world are in for a treat when Iberostar Tenerife of Spain and Guaros de Lara of Venezuela will contest this year’s FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Tenerife, on 24 September.
The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is an annual traditional match-up featuring the winners of FIBA’s top club competitions in Europe and Americas and this year it will be played in the Spanish island of Tenerife, home of the Basketball Champions League inaugural winners, Iberostar Tenerife.
Guaros de Lara celebrated its second title of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas with a win over the Argentinian team Weber Bahía Basket 88-65, in the Final of the 2017 continental league. In the history of the continental league, Guaros de Lara (Venezuela) and Peñarol de Mar de Plata (Argentina) are the only teams to capture two titles of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, but Guaros de Lara is the only one to do so consecutively.
End of April, Iberostar Tenerife became the first ever winners of the Basketball Champions League with a 63-59 win over the Turkish side Banvit in the Final of the Final Four, hosted in San Cristobal de la Laguna in Tenerife.
Ticketing and broadcast information will follow in due course.
This coming season Iberostar Tenerife will defend its title in the second edition of the Basketball Champions League, starting on 19 September with the Qualification Rounds and on 10 October with the Regular Season.
