Unicaja Malaga extends Carlos Suarez till June 2021

Unicaja keeps team captain Suarez

ACB
7DAYS EuroCup champion Unicaja Malaga kept building a competitive roster for the foreseeable future by re-signing team captain Carlos Suarez to a multi-year deal that could seen him wearing his current uniform until the end of the 2020-21 season, the club announced Tuesday. Suarez (2.03 meters, 31 years old) is set to start his fifth season with Unicaja. He averaged 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 21 EuroCup games with Unicaja last season. Suarez had a key role in do-or-die Game 3 of the EuroCup Finals, playing at the center position to ignite Unicaja's 13-point comeback in the final nine minutes. He started his career with Estudiantes Madrid and also played for Real Madrid before joining Unicaja in 2013. He helped Madrid win the Spanish Copa del Rey title in 2012 and lifted the Spanish League trophy in 2013 with the same team. He also played two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four with Madrid, in 2011 and 2013, as well as being a member of the Spanish national team. Suarez helped Spain win a gold medal at the 2004 U18 European Championships. Suarez has plenty of EuroLeague experience, totalling 701 points and 494 rebounds in 140 career games with Estudiantes, Madrid and Unicaja over seven campaigns. "I come off the most special year in my career, not just for the EuroCup title, which was unexpected, but also because of all the games and playoff series we won," Suarez said. "We had a great connection with our fans, which is something I never saw before. My priority was to stay in Malaga, I always said that, so I am very happy."
