ACB president Roca: FIBA Europe's decision is disproportionate, unfair and baseless
ACB replies to FIBA Europe with strong statements made by the president Roca
ACB president Francisco Roca replied after FIBA Europe decided to suspend Spanish Federation from Eurobasket 2017.
“We are available for FEB to help to develop the right arguments to reverse FIBA’s decision which seems absolutely disproportionate” Roca said. “FIBA’s decision is disproportionate and the severity of the penalty to these federation is unrelated to the alleged infringement committed” Roca said. “FIBA Europe’s decision is unfair and baseless. Do not forget that in the press released made after FIBA Europe Board of March 20, when anything started, they make an exception for the 16 teams that will play in Euroleague next season. Participate in Euroleague is not sanctioned while playing in Eurocup it is? It seems unbelievable intolerable. Last summer the first model of the new Basketball Champions League was a league of 16 clubs with 8-9 with a guaranteed place. Essentially the same model implemented by Euroleague. The sanctions imposed by FIBA Europe are impossible to understand” Roca continued.
“It is absolutely false that ACB clubs can’t play in the next Basketball Champions League. In the April 4’s assembly we accepted the Euroleague offer while all the clubs have the freedom to play wherever they want. We urge FIBA Europe to reconsider and reverse their decision that we consider disproportionate and without legal basis. We are convinced that Spain and the other sanctioned Federations will compete in Eurobasket 2017”.
