The Gold Coast Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of their first import for season 2010/11 in Bennett Davison.

Davison brings a wealth of top flight international experience to the Blaze. After winning a NCAA Championship with the University of Arizona, Davison played in Turkey before joining the Melbourne Tigers for the 2000 season. Since then he has played for Napoli, Milano and Bologna  in Italy and AGO Rethymno in Greece.

Blaze head coach Joey Wright believes Davison brings a lot to the table for the Blaze on the back of their journey to the Semi-Finals last season.

“Bennett is an outstanding athlete, with the versatility to play multiple positions on the floor.

“The fans will love the way he plays above the rim, but it is his veteran savvy and basketball intelligence that will make him such a great addition to our squad.

“For us to be able to secure a player like him, with the top level experience he has, is a major coup for us”.

Davison is returning to the country where he enjoyed so much success during his stint with the Tigers. During that season, he averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

At 203cm (6’8”), Davison is a total package of scoring and rebounding ability, and his superb athleticism makes him a formidable shot blocker. His physical attributes and basketball IQ allow him to play the Small Forward, Power Forward and Centre positions, something that is extremely rare in the modern game.

The Blaze have been the most active team in this NBL offseason, working to improve their roster heading into the 2010/11 season.  More player signings will be announced in the coming days.
