Australian SG Chris Goulding sets NBL millennium record
25-year old Australian-native guard who played Summer League ball for the Cavs erupted with 50 points in 40 minutes
Australian-native shooting guard Chris Goulding of the Melbourne Tigers captured the top scoring performances in the NBL this millennium.
Goulding, 25, spurred his Aussie Tigers to a 92-82 victory over the Sydney Kings behind a jaw-dropping showcase scoring 50 points, shooting 11-of-19 from within the arc, 9-of-14 from distance and 1-of-3 free throws.
Goulding, just the fifth Aussie in NBL history to score 50-points in a single game, also contributed six rebounds and one assist to help the Tigers secure the No. 3 seed ahead of the domestic playoffs later this month.
Worthy to note that Goulding, a 6-foot-4 ex-Summer League member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, was guarded by former NBA forward Sam Young.
Young, a strong and athletic defender who registered trips to the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Semifinals with the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers respectively, responded with 22 points and eight boards.
Goulding's showing was the highest scoring outing since New Zealand's Kirk Penney scored a career-high 49 points on January 2010.
Goulding, the NBL's leading scorer with 23.2 points per game, is generating heavy interest from Europe and has multiple NBA workouts lined up this summer.
