NBA & Euroleague in EuroBasket: 37,3% of the players will miss FIBA World Cup qualifications?
The numbers of the NBA and Euroleague players @ EuroBasket 2017. In the best 8 teams the percentage increases to 66,7%
In the recent days FIBA and Euroleague are starting to talk again about the new seasonal calendar, when the national teams will play the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualification games during the season. Many players will not be able to play with the NT because of the busy schedule, in particular for the players of the Euroleague and NBA teams. A possible new agreement looks still far away, but which could be the real impact of this new calendar with the 'windows' during the year?
If we look at the last EuroBasket we can say that the 37,3% of the players who played in Finland, Turkey, Israel and Romania comes from NBA and Euroleague teams. Obviously a number even greater if we check in the best 16 teams (51,6%) or in the best 8 teams (66,7% for Slovenia, Serbia, Spain, Russia, Latvia, Germany, Italy and Greece).
In total we have 107 on 287 players, without considering the many important absences of the tournament. For example we could see a totally different Spain, for the team of Scariolo with 12/12 players from the two big competitions. Evident also the numbers of teams like Greece, Russia, France and Serbia (8/12 despite all the injured players out of EuroBasket).
Here the complete list, with also the indication of the players from the domestic league.
