Gigi Datome says he is unlikely to play for Italy next summer

Gigi Datome said that he is unlikely to play for Italy’s National Team in the two windows next summer (end of June, early in September) when Italy is expected to play four games of World Cup qualifiers.

Datome, a member of EuroLeague champions of Fenerbahce, won’t play the first two windows, scheduled November and February.

“I am proud for this Eurobasket” Datome told the Italian media after the loss to Serbia. “I am said to say goodbye to my teammates” added the captain of Italy. “Next summer I intend to rest. After 17 straight years with the National Team, I think I deserve it” Datome added.
