EuroBasket Group D: Russia goes 3-0, Great Britain is in trouble
The results of the third day in Istanbul
A remarkable fourth quarter is not enough for Great Britain to complete the comeback against Latvia. The Latvian players looked like they could easily take home the victory as they closed the third quarter up 26 points, but the British players – especially Gabe Olaseni, who got his third straight double-double – thought it was not over and came really close to a huge comeback that alarmed Latvia. Unfortunately for Great Britain, there wasn't enough time to complete the comeback and lost 97-92. New York Knicks starting power forward had 28 points and 8 rebounds, while Davis Bertans added 22 points.
Russia remains undefeated in group D as Alexey Shved led the team to a 67-76 victory against Belgium. The former NBA point guard led all scorers with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Timofey Mozgov went in double digits with 12 as well as Khvostov and Kurbanov. Maxime De Zeeuw's 15-point performance was not enough for Belgium, which has now a record of one victory and two losses.
Turkey wasn't able to make the most of the home-court advantage and lost to Serbia 80-74. Stefan Jovic and Sacramento Kings rookie Bogdan Bogdanovic led Serbia to the second victory by combining for 16 points just in the fourth quarter. For Turkey, Melih Mahmutoglu had 19 points, followed by Cedi Osman (15 points, 5 assists) and Semih Erden with 13 points.
