EuroBasket 2017 Group B: First win for Israel and Ukraine, Lithuania beats Italy

The results of the third day in Tel Aviv, including a very good game by Ukraine against Georgia

EuroBasket
Ukraine opened Day 4 of Eurobasket 2017 by getting its first victory (81-88) in the tournament against Georgia. Despite having captain Slava Kravtsov out of the game with a back injury, Ukraine got the win led by the playmaker-center duo composed of Denys Lukashov and Artem Pustovyi. The 28-year-old point guard finished with a double-double 17 points and 11 assists, while the 7-foot-2 big man stood out with a 19-point performance, showing pretty nice abilities to protect the rim, run the floor, move well in pick-and-roll situations and finish at the rim. Ukraine closed the first half of the game with a double-digit advantage by making the most of a very good three-point shooting percentage. Georgia tried to come back in the second half led by NBA champion Zaza Pachulia (17 points) and Tornike Shengelia (16 pts, 7 assists) but was unable to steal the victory from Ukraine.

Lithuania didn't let Italy get its third straight victory thanks to a great game played on both ends of the floor. Coach Adomaitis found in Adas Juskevicius a very efficient sixth man who scored a team-high 20 points and shot 4-6 from beyond the arc. Lithuania came back from a 10-point deficit in the first quarter and overturned the score in the second quarter by completing a huge 32-13 run and closed the game with a 73-78 victory. For Italy, Gigi Datome scored 24 points while Marco Belinelli had 14 and 4 assists.

Huge comeback for Israel that make the team get its first victory in the tournament against Germany in front of a sold-out Tel Aviv Arena. They came back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter and closed the game with a 82-80 victory as Richard Howell led Israel with a 23-point, 9-rebound performance. Golden State Warriors forward Omri Casspi finished with a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds. For Germany, Atlanta Hawks starting point guard Dennis Schroeder had 20 points and 7 assists.
