Eurobasket 2017 Group D: Turkey get first win, Russia continue to roll

After coming up short in their opening FIBA EuroBasket 2017 game to Serbia, Latvia bounced back with a 92-64 victory over Belgium on Saturday in Group D.

It was a night to remember for Kristaps Porzingis and Janis Timma, who collected 27 points apiece, combining for more than half of the team's total output.

Meanwhile, Axel Hervelle was the only double-digit scorer for Belgium with 12 points, while Pierre-Antoine Gillet collected 9 points and 5 rebounds.

 

 

Russia moved to the top of the Group D standings after extending their winning FIBA EuroBasket 2017 start in Istanbul with a 75-72 victory against Serbia, following a nail-biting finish.

Aleksei Shved was the top-scorer for Russia, with 22 points and 4 assists, Timofey Mozgov added 11 points and 8 rebounds, while Nikita Kurbanov also collected 11 points and 7 boards.

Meanwhile, Bogdan Bogdanovic came on strong in the second half to finish the evening with 19 points and Boban Marjanovic also had a strong game offensively with 19 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the free-throw line.

 

 

 

 

Turkey gifted the home fans in Istanbul their first victory at the FIBA EuroBasket 2017, defeating Great Britain 84-70 behind the clinical shooting night of Melih Mahmotuglu.

The 27-year-old Fenerbahce guard knocked down 7-of-11 shots from three-point range to lead the game in scoring with 24 points, Semih Erden added 19 points, while Cedi Osman had another strong game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

For Great Britain, Gabe Olaseni finished the evening with a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, with Andrew Lawrence also collecting 15 points and adding 5 assists.
