BELGIUM-GREAT BRITAIN 103-90
Belgium opened their FIBA EuroBasket 2017 campaign with a hard-fought 103-90 victory against Great Britain after a momentous 16-2 run in the third quarter to tip the scales their way.
The Eddy Casteels-coached Lions shot the lights out in the first half of play and finished the game with a 14-of-38 conversion rate from beyond the arc, with Pierre-Antoine Gillet leading the way in the second half with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Maxime De Zeeuw chipped in with a game-high 21 points and 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Gabe Olaseni finished with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds for Great Britain, with Dan Clark chipping in with 20 points and 6 rebounds.
SERBIA-LATVIA 92-82
Bogdan Bogdanovic rose to the occasion in the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 opener for Serbia in Group D, leading his country to a 92-82 victory over Latvia with a 30-point effort on Friday.
The Serbian side battled back from a double-digit deficit early in the game and were in control for most of the second half, using their superiority inside the paint for a 24-8 lead in second-chance points.
Milan Macvan finished the game with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, Boban Marjanovic collected 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Kristaps Porzingis had 18 points in his official debut for the senior national team.
RUSSIA-TURKEY 76-73
Alexey Shved drained a stone-cold dagger three-pointer in the final minute of the game to help Russia down FIBA EuroBasket 2017 hosts Turkey 76-73 on the opening day of action in Group D.
The 28-year-old Russian guard finished the game with a team-high 22 points and dished out 4 assists, while Timofey Mozgov was the only other player in double figures on the team with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Cedi Osman came up with a big performance for Turkey, leading the game in scoring with 28 points, while also adding 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists. Erkan Veyseloglu and Semih Erden chipped in with 11 points apiece.
