EuroBasket 2017 Group A: Slovenia, Greece & Finland victories in Day 1

First big surprise in the Helsinki group, with the win of the hosts against the Collet team

Slovenia obtained the first two points of this EuroBasket thanks to the win in the inaugural game of the competition, 90-81 against Poland. Goran Dragic the MVP of the match with 30 points and 4 assist, helped by the rising star Luka Doncic (11+8+6) and his Real Madrid teammate Randolph (7+10+4). For the Polish team great game for Ponitka (22+13), not enough the efforts of Slaughter (12 with 6 assist) and Karnowski (11+5).



Greece wins without problems the second game of the day, 90-61 against Iceland. The Scandinavian team, after a bad start, reopened the challenge in the second quarter, but the opponents closed the game after the halftime, thanks to the energy of Antetokounmpo (9+4) and the work at rebound (46-32). Top scorer for Greece is Pappas with 20 pts, 17+5 from Printezis, 10 from Papanikolau, 9 of Calathes and 7+8+4 for Bourousis. For Iceland 21 points of Palsson.



Amazing game to close the first day in Helsinki. Finland beats 86-84 France after an overtime thanks to the winning shot of Jamar Wilson. The hosts start really good, and thanks to the comeback in the last minutes sent the game to the overtime, with a really shining performance of Lauri Markkanen. Despite the control at rebound there are too many turnovers for France, not enough the 25pts of Fournier and the 21pts for De Colo, with 9+9 from Diaw. Finland obtained a really important victory under the eyes of the Helsinki Arena thanks to the 14pts of Salin, the 15pts for Kotti and the 14pts with 6ass from the winner-shot Wilson. But is another the MVP ot the match, the new Bulls player Markkanen closed the game with 22+7 (9/15), leading with authority the team in the last 15 minutes of the challenge.
