Argentina and USA will play FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Final

Statement from FIBA

AmeriCup

Argentina and the USA earned the right to play for continental gold after capturing wins in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Semi-Finals. USA arrived as favorite, and met everyone’s expectations, after defeating the Virgin Islands, 90-62, and will play in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Final. Once again, their strong defense allowed them to compensate their low effectiveness in outside throws. Fast attacks, short possessions and making the most out of the rivals’ errors were the victory’s convincing tactics. Munford, with 20 points and 10 rebounds, was the game’s outstanding player.

With the game to their favor, the rotations started to appear and the end was predictable. Virgin Islands tried it all, but things were complicated, especially when they tried to attack. With the same formula, they used in Montevideo, and true to their coach’s idea of prioritizing in the defense, the winners at a point distanced themselves by 30 points (87-57), which also raised their percentages in outside throws. United States won and took their first step towards their goal of taking home this first edition of the FIBA AmeriCup. Argentina gave their public a great joy when they defeated Mexico 84-67 and achieved their objective of defining the FIBA AmeriCup 2017. Hernández’s team did a great second half and sentenced the game before the final second, in a match that was complicated during the first part. Garino, Brussino and Saiz were the offensive leaders of a team that played to the rhythm marked by their Point Guard, Facundo Campazzo. Brussino, with his outside shooting, as well as the defense’s intensity, were paramount for Hernández's decision to rotate the positions that had already rendered results. Campazzo, Brussino, Deck, Garino and Saiz are the names of those who commanded applause from the whole Orfeo Superdome. The rotation came, and the Argentines played the last minutes with their heads on tomorrow’s Final. The overwhelming 45-31 in the second half left clear the great level with which the hosts will arrive to the decisive game against United States.
