Eric Maynor signs with Orlandina Basket
He is replacing Justin Edwards
Orlandina Basket signed the US Point Guard Eric Maynor (6’3, 1987) until the end of the season. Maynor, a first rounder in the 2009 NBA Draft (#20 by the Utah Jazz), spent four years with Virginia Commonwealth Union at college basketball level, becoming a 2-time CAA Player of The Year (2008, 2009). His #3 jersey has been retired.
He played 5 seasons in the NBA with the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers (with our Player Development coach, Kim Hughes), Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers, collecting 267 regular season games averaging 4.3 points, 2.8 assists, 1.3 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game. Maynor has also played 23 NBA Playoffs Games with the Thunder, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2011.
He arrived in Europe during the 2014-15 season, playing 15 games in Italy with Varese (13.5 points, 7.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds), where he returned last season after a short experience in Russia with Nizhny Novgorod (due to an injury).
In the 2016-17 Italian Serie A League, Maynor played 29 games with 12.9 points, 5.5 assists (3rd in the League) and 3.1 rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game. He also played 23.8 minutes per game in the Basketball Champions League regular season, averaging 8.9 points,3.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Giuseppe Sindoni (Orlandina Basket Sports Director): “When we received the offer to buy-out Justin Edwards, we took our time to value which opportunities we had before closing the deal. When we knew that a great player like Eric Maynor was available to come here, we decided to make the move. Maynor is one of the best point guards we saw in the recent years in Italy, he can create out of the pick and roll, can play for himself and his teammates and will give some open looks to our shooters. We also think that he will be helpful to our other backcourt players, like Engin Atsur – who will be able to play in both guard positions. We talked about this opportunity and we feel that Maynor will improve our team’s potential”.
