Olimpia Milano officially signs Dairis Bertans
The Latvian inks with Milano
Pallacanestro Olimpia EA7 Emporio Armani Milano agreed on terms with Dairis Bertans, coming from Darussafaka Istanbul. Bertans is a 1.93 shooting guard of Latvian nationality.
WHO’S BERTANS – Born in 1989, on September 9, in Valmiera, Latvia, Bertans began to play in his native town before moving to ASK Riga in 2006 (in 2009 he helped the team winning the Latvian championship). He stayed in Riga until 2009, the he played for Ventspils and moved to VEF Riga in 2010. With VEF he won three consecutive Latvian titles before transferring abroad for the first in 2013 to play for Bilbao (in 2015/16, he averaged 15.5 points per game during the Eurocup competition making 48.5% of his threes), and eventually in Darussafaka Istanbul making his EuroLeague debut. Over 32 appearances he averaged 6.4 points per game converting 50.0% (33/66) of his threes (8th overall) playing 16 minutes per game. He also finished 14th in free-throw shooting making 89.1% of his attempts. He has a career-high of 29 against Baskonia Vitoria, and he scored 18 points in Milano. In the Turkish league he had 10.0 points per outing and made 42.3% of his threes and 84.0% of his free throws.
NOTES – Bertans conquered a bronze medal at the Under 18 European Championships of 2007… He’s played for Latvia during the last three European Championships… In 2012/13, playing for Riga, he went 25/25 from the line during the Eurocup season… While in Bilbao he scored 19 points in a preseason game against the Philadelphia 76ers… In the summer of 2014 he played the Orlando NBA Summer League with the Boston Celtics… He has a brother, Davis who plays for the San Antonio Spurs…
