Italian clubs to be free to choose the European Cups they want to play from next season?
FIP will have a meeting with FIBA soon
The Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) will have a meeting soon with FIBA, as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport.
FIP is leaning toward giving the clubs the freedom to play in any European Cup from next season (either ECA or FIBA).
This summer FIP forced Pallacanestro Reggiana, Aquila Basket Trento, Dinamo Sassari and Pallacanestro Cantù to withdraw from the Eurocup threatening them to being kicked out of next Serie A season.
But with no more chance of organizing the Olympic Games in Rome 2024 and with the vote of FIBA President Patrick Baumann no more necessary for Italy, the clubs will likely be free to choose the competition they want to play from 2017-2018.
