EA7 Olimpia Milano is the new Serie A champion, thanks to the 4-2 final victory against GrissinBon Reggio Emilia. The team of coach Repesa, after the first place in regular season and the victory in National Cup, won the championship number 27 of own history. Reggio Emilia lost the second final series in a row, closing the year with the succes in the SuperCup.
The team of coach Repesa won during the post-season the series against Trento of a future Olimpia player Davide Pascolo (3-0), and Venezia (4-2 the semifinals on Mike Green team). Across the GrissinBon, second best club of the RS, eliminated Sassari (revenge after the 2015 lost finals) and Avellino of the MVP James Nunnally, after a really balanced challenge (4-3).
All home victories in the first 5 games of the finals, Milano made an important 97-73 succes in game-5 obtaining the match point for the title, 74-70 away victory at PalaBigi to celebrate the championship, returning on top in Italy after the last big trophy in 2014.
Rakim Sanders was voted as MVP of the Finals, but for the Olimpia it was a really great team work with a lot of protagonists during the series: Simon, Alessandro Gentile, Kalnietis on top, but also McLean, Macvan, Batista and Lafayette, with the important efforts of Cerella and the big ex Cinciarini. For Reggio Emilia not was enough an amazing series of the immortal Rimas Kaukenas, and the help from the Italian group players of coach Menetti: Della Valle, Polonara, Aradori and De Nicolao, with Stefano Gentile unfortunately out for the Finals against his brother. Lavrinovic, Veremeenko, Silins and Needham the other players who tried to stop the run of the new champions.
