Reggio Emilia, Trento and Sassari may be excluded from next Serie A championship?
The three Italian teams have signed a three-year agreement to play in Eurocup
Pallacanestro Reggiana, Aquila Basket Trento and Dinamo Sassari may be excluded from the next Serie A championship, as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport and confirmed by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian Basketball Federation was asked by FIBA to use an “iron hand” on the three teams which have signed the agreement to play in Eurocup for the next three seasons.
Olimpia Milano is not at risk because FIBA doesn’t want to “make a war” against the 11 teams with A License which have signed the 10-year agreement to play in Euroleague.
The president of the Italian National Committee is reportedly “furious” with Trento, Reggio Emilia and Sassari because Patrick Baumann, president of FIBA, may remove the support for the candidacy of Rome to host the Olympic Games in 2024.
