Over 1.5 million fans attended Beko BBL games live this season
German league broke a new record
The German League has released the attendance data of the just finished 2013-14 season in the Bako BBL championship that crowned FC Bayern Munchen as champion just a few days ago.
The League again set a new attendance record as, for the first time, the fans on stands at the arenas exceeded the 1.5 million mark: A total of 1,575,581 spectators attended the 337 games scheduled, which makes an average of 4,675 spectators per game, an increase of 5.4 % in relation to last season, when the Beko BBL games gathered on average 4,435 spectators per match ( 1,481,324 in total ). As an average, the occupancy rate in the venues shows an unprecedented 89.2 %, ( 86.1 % one year ago ). This is the twelfth time in a row that the German championship has improved its attendance figures from the previous season.
The managing director of BBL Jan Pommer has been quoted by saying that " thanks to the dedicated and distinguished work at the respective sites we have consolidated our second place in Europe. This increase, clearly speaks out on the attractiveness of our product."
A total of six teams drew more than 100,000 people in their arenas - at the head, as of last season, ALBA BERLIN. The championship runners moved 245 163 spectators in the O2 World - an average of 10,659 fans per game. They are followed by champions FC Bayern Munich ( 145,188 fans / average 6,050), Brose Baskets Bamberg ( 129.200 / 6.800), EWE Baskets Oldenburg (116 605/5300), ratiopharm ulm (114 214/6011) and Telekom Baskets Bonn (105,090 / 5,531).
