Klemen Prepelic cannot wait for November 24. That is the day when the magnitude of what he and his teammates did at the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 will start to really sit in. It is also when Prepelic and the Slovenian national team start their journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 - as the hunted instead of the hunters.
Slovenia tip off their World Cup qualification against Belarus in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. It will be a goosebumps moment for Prepelic as a crowd of about 12,000 are expected at Arena Stozice for the homecoming of the heroes.
"The people are ready to see us,” Prepelic said. “Slovenia as a nation loves basketball.”
Prepelic and his teammates received a hero’s welcome in Ljubljana a day after Slovenia’s 93-85 win over Serbia in the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Final. More than 20,000 Slovenians came out to the Congress Square in the country’s capital to celebrate the first-time European champions.
