Slovenia Basketball Federation replies to FIBA Europe calling suspension unfair, unfounded

The letter sent from Slovenia to FIBA Europe

Slovenia
Basketball Federation of Slovenia sent a letter to FIBA Europe after the suspension of the National Team from Eurobasket 2017.

1. The Basketball Federation of Slovenia supports FIBA Europe in its efforts to take action against ECA’s allegedly anticompetitive and illegal practices.

2. Basketball Federation of Slovenia, as we have already stated in our lettersto FIBA/FIBA Europe dated from March 18th and March 21st 2016, supports FIBA in its efforts to establish a new top level European club competition, FIBA Champions League. The principles for qualifying to this league and more detailed information on the merits of the league that would not be subject to constant changes would definitely make this league even more transparent and credible and would also help National Federations and their clubs to offer even greater support to this new top league.

The reasoning behind such Basketball Federation of Slovenia’s standpoint is as follows:
- Basketball Federation of Slovenia does not support allegedly illegal tying practices of ECA.

- Also, we would like to emphasize that no clubs of our Federation have signed or entered into any agreement with ECA.

- The agreement was obviously concluded between the Adriatic League as its own and independent legal entity and ECA.

- According to your letter to Adriatic League and National Federations from June 29th , 2015 and further correspondence Adriatic League has a status of Officially Recognized Organization of FIBA Europe.

- Basketball Federation of Slovenia is not any type of an owner neither do we have any voting rights or other influence on the Adriatic League. Until so and until this league complies with FIBA’s regulatory framework and/or has a status of Officially Recognized Organization of FIBA Europe Basketball Federation of Slovenia has no power and/or competence to react.

- We believe that FIBA Europe should therefore address these allegations/accusations and its concerns to the Adriatic League only.
