Marko Tusek: I am living with 300-400 euros per month
The Slovenian forward tells about his situation
Former Slovenian forward Marko Tusek spoke with Ekipa24 about his situation.
Tusek is living in Montenegro with his family with 300-400 euros per month.
Tusek told his entire story.
"I would like to tell the whole story. My former wife is dragging me to courts due to alimony. In 2005, when I got a divorce, I left her basically everything I had. The apartment and everything what I earned until 28., 29., of age. She got everything. She also took cash from my bank account, around 100.000€, and I did not even know about it. I just wanted to go away because things between us did not work anymore. Maybe somebody will think, that I got a divorce from my first wife, due to the second wife, but no, it was not like that. Things simply did not work. My mother always used to tell me that I should not sit on two chairs at same time and I lived by that. When I got a divorce, I met my current wife. With my first wife I have a child, and after the divorce, everything was more or less fine, as I was paying alimony. I was in touch with him in Slovenia. Until I was able to pay, until I had money, everything was fine. Now, I did not see my soon for many years. My former wife said I can not see him and she also told the police that I am not paying the alimony. I can not go to Slovenia. If I came back, I would probably go to prison."
"Last three, four years I have been without any work. I live very humble. I am in situation, that I never imagined I would be. I had bad investments in my life, I invested money where I shouldn't. Everyone is trying to do something after the career, so you can live with it until end of your life. I was investing in real-estates, medical care facilities, but it did not work out. When I pay all the bills, we are left with 300, 400 EUR until end of the month."
"It is hard to not see my son. If everything was normal, I would keep in touch, because it is also good for him. I have to tell you that even my parents, his grandpa and grandma do not see him. Family Tusek was never welcome at the family of my former wife. If somebody can't function together, it is not family's fault. My mother has nothing to do with my failed marriage. Why a grandma shouldn't see her grandson? She used to send gift cards, presents for my child to them via mail, but they never picked them up at the post office, when they saw who sent them. I used to help my former wifes family alot with money. I was buying them cars, furnishings the apartments, giving them money and everything was fine. When I decided to stop with this, the relationship changed completely. Now I am in trouble, but I know I will get past this. Even if I am in such position, I am happy. I have a second child who is 15 months old. But I am really sorry for Marko, who is 13 years old, and he could come visit me, but he can not. I am very sad that they are doing this."
"I was paying the alimony at first. If I am not mistaken, it was the biggest one in Slovenia. I can not pay this amount my whole life. When I had big contracts in basketball, everything was OK, but when the contracts lowered, I was not able to pay. Last years, I was playing for lets say a very good salary in Slovenia. These were not contracts anymore for 200.000, 300.000 euros per season."
"I do not know when I am coming back to Slovenia. I have information from my friends that my former wife told the court and police, and they are looking for me. I will never forget my son and I am always ready to help him with everything I can. I am living right now with 300, 400 euros a month. It is very hard, and as I said, I never was thinking I would be in such position. I am not the only one, because I know a lot of athletes who earned a lot of money in their career, and now they are without everything."
"It is true. I gambled a lot in my career. I went to casinos. I lost a of of money there, you can only lose money there. I can not gamble anymore, so I do not go there anymore."
"No, I am not hiding in Montenegro. I am living here legally for 11 years now. Everyone knows my address. I will not hide. If they want me, they will find me. If anyone calls, I answer. If I have to go somewhere, I will go. There is no problem. My friends from Slovenia, they told me I am on some-kind of list and the police would grab me if I show up."
"I wanted to come back to basketball in last season, so I could earn some money. Here in Montenegro, there is no money in basketball. Only Buducnost has money, everyone else is more or less broke. They were thinking that I am full of money, in Zeta, where I played, so they were thinking they will not have to give me anything. I did not expect much, I wanted to get in shape to go to Asia, or like Marko Milic in Kuwait, and earn a last good contract. But then my health problems repeated. Arrhythmia, which I had already in 2005, showed up. I got it when I got a divorce. I almost ended my career back then, but everything worked out for the best. Well, this was then, now it is a bit different."
"I will not continue with playing basketball. Doctors told me that I shouldn't play basketball with this arrhythmia. I want to try with coaching or agent bussines. I was calling everyone that could help me start with this careers, because I have my coaching licence, but the situation is not good. Nobody needs anything. If I was assistant coaching somewhere, I would get couple of 100 euros, but with this money, you can not live abroad."
"My wife works, we live with her salary. I am a babysitter. When I signed in Zeta, I was thinking OK, I can earn few euros and bring them home, but it did not work out. They were promising me money, but they did not keep their promise. When I used to have a lot of money, I bought 3 real estates in Montenegro. I have two apartments, a bussines office but I can not sell them. Simply there is no interest. I have also a clinic for healing hemorrhoids, I get lets say 500 euros a month from this, so I can pay the bills at the house. Then we use my wifes money to get through the money. I have a car, but I can not register it. My sister helps me a lot, if not financially, she sends some clothes for the baby, same goes for my brother who helps me also. I will never ask for help. I would rather go on streets. I will get out of this crisis alone. We are in difficult years, but this will be over soon."
