Union Olimpija Ljubljana name Gasper Potocnik head coach
The coach signs a contract for two years
BC Union Olimpija Ljubljana signed 2-years contract with Slovenian coach Gašper Potočnik. Coach Potočnik already worked as assistant in senior team of Union Olimpija since 2007 to 2010. He also worked as a coach in different Slovenian clubs (Škofja Loka, Elektra and Krka) and as well in Slovenian National Team. Coach Potočnik won Slovenian League title with Krka in 2013.
In last two seasons, he worked in BC Union Olimpija Ljubljana as U19 coach, Head of Youth Department and head coach of Škofja Loka in Slovenian Second division. In 2014/2015 he won title with U19 and also got promoted to Liga Telemach with Škofja Loka. He is also assistant coach in Slovenian National Team since 2011.
Matevž Zupančič, General Manager of Union Olimpija: "We believe Gašper Potočnik is the right solution for the club in this situation. We want to have a young and home-grown core of the team. He has great results in the youth categories, experience from the national teams and also different clubs. He has also showed dedication to Union Olimpija. We have the support of the sponsors to start building a new team from head coach on. In the next days, we will also agree terms with rest of the coaching staff of senior and youth department. Then, we will focus on the players. We will build the team on basis of our strategy with cooperation with coaching staff. The team will be built strictly within our financial abilities."
