Olimpija Ljubljana signs Vlatko Cancar to a 5-year contract
The 18-year old prospect signs a long-term deal with the Slovenian team
BC Union Olimpija Ljubljana signed first professional contract with young 18 years old Slovenian prospect Vlatko Čančar (201 cm, 1997) who comes from club's youth categories. Čančar, who won U19 Championship this year with Union Olimpija and is playing as loaned player in Second Slovenian Division for Škofja Loka, signed 5-years contract with BC Union Olimpija Ljubljana. Čančar was already part of U18 and U16 Slovenian National Teams. This year, he won U19 Slovenian League with Union Olimpija, while last year, he was part of U17 team, that also won cadet Championship and was placed second in U19. Čančar arrived to Union Olimpija from ŠD Koš Koper before start of 2013/2014 season.
Matevž Zupančič, General Manager of Union Olimpija: "Vlatko Čančar is a player, that we brought in from ŠD Koš Koper awhile ago. He practiced and played in our youth basketball program for two seasons and also also already played for senior team during pre-season. We are very happy that we agreed on a long-term deal and that our theory of a bridge between youth team and senior team is coming into reality. Our good work of youth coaches and strict selection of youth players is slowly giving results. We want to give chance to play top basketball to our home grown players in next season, and it is up to them to grab this chance."
Vlatko Čančar, player of Union Olimpija: "Before the start of my basketball career, I had one goal, and this was to sign professionally with Union Olimpija. I am happy and satisfied that I accomplished this goal. Union Olimpija gave me everything in last two years and I am really proud to be part of this club. I have new challenges and goals in front of me. I want to be part of senior team in next season and also experience playing time on top level. I know this will be possible only with hard work on practices."
