Krka Novo Mesto win first Slovenian Cup of its history
Krka beat Union Olimpija Ljubljana. Sani Becirovic named MVP
Krka Novo mesto claimed the Slovenian national cup champions title for the first time in entire history thanks to the convincing victory against their biggest domestic rivals Union Olimpija in the final.
Krka put on a dominant performance in Maribor to bring the cup title to Novo mesto for the first time in history. The winners were already up by 25 points midway through the third quarter (65:40). In the last period of the game, Union Olimpija managed to cut the deficit to only 13 points until the end (70:83) and made the defeat look decent.
Edo Murić (21 points) was the top scorer of the final game, while Alex Stepheson was the most efficient in Ljubljana team with 14 points on his account. Sani Bečirović, former player of Union Olimpija, who now plays for Krka, was named the final tournament MVP after scoring 20 points on the final day.
In order to win the champions title, Krka players had to eliminate Rogaška in the quarter finals (76:61) and Hopsi in the semi-finals (97:79), before downing last year's champions in the final.
