CSKA Moscow signs Leo Westermann

The French guard signs a 1+1 deal

Russia
CSKA Moscow strengthened its backcourt by signing point guard Leo Westermann to a one-year deal with an option to keep him for another season. Westermann (1.97 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Zalgiris Kaunas, where he averaged 8.2 points and a career best 5.5 assists in 30 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. That assist tally was 10th-best in the EuroLeague last season. He helped Zalgiris win the Lithuanian League and Cup double and challenge for a EuroLeague playoff berth. Westermann joined Zalgiris from Limoges CSP of his native France, where he averaged 10.1 points on 88.9% free throw shooting and 4.3 assists in 10 Euroleague games the season before. Despite his young age, Westermann brings five seasons of EuroLeague experience: two with Partizan Belgrade of Serbia, two more with Limoges and one with Zalgiris. He has also played for Centre Federal du Basket-ball and Asvel Lyon Villeurbanne of his native France. Westermann helped Partizan win the Serbian League and the Adriatic League titles in 2013 and lifted the French League trophy with Limoges in 2015. He is a member of the French national team with whom he won the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2015. "It is a great feeling to be a part of such legendary club and big team," Westermann said. "It is definitely a huge step in my career, I am really excited about this new challenge and I look forward to working with my new teamates and staff."
