CSKA Moscow named Dan Shamir assistant coach
Shamir joins Ettore Messina's staff
Israeli specialist Dan Shamir, 38, has become an assistant to our team’s head coach Ettore Messina. Contract is signed for 1 year with the option for second season.
Shamir is considered one of the most promising young coaches in Europe. He started working in 2003 as Pini Gershon’s assistant in Maccabi Tel-Aviv, won 2 Euroleague titles (2004, 2005) and reaching the Euroleague's championship game (2006). After three years he has become a head coach of the main competitors – Hapoel Jerusalem. He worked under David Blatt in Dynamo Moscow in 2008-09 season, then got back to ‘solo’ work in Bnei Hasharon. Also served as the assistant coach at the Israeli national team in Eurobasket 2011 in Lithuania. Shamir coached Hapoel Holon during past two seasons, renewed the contract in May but agreed to terminate it after the invitation by Ettore Messina.
Ettore Messina, CSKA head coach:
Coach Shamir has big and successful experience of assistant coaching work under legendary Pini Gershon and David Blatt, he has worked as a head coach for five years. He possesses good knowledge of the game, knows basketball culture and I think he will do his best to substitute Quin Snyder. We are happy to greet Dan on CSKA coaching staff.
Dan Shamir, CSKA coach:
