Positives: Hickey is fast PG with great ball handling skills. He likes pushing the ball and attacking in transition. Moreover, in the half court offense Hickey prefers to be in ball screen situations, and make decisions depending on defense. He is a good 3pt shooter, and can shoot either off the dribble or from catch and shoot situations. In ball screen situations, Hickey sees the floor really well - coming out of ball screens he can find an open guy or create for himself. Since he can shoot successfully of the dribble, he will punish the defense if they try to go under the pick. Hickey is also decent in 1 on 1 situations, where he can use his ball handling skills to penetrate the defense and find an open guy; However he is the most effective in ball screen situations. Defensively he is one of the best on ball defenders in the Big12 conference. He has really good footwork and lateral movement, which makes him really aggressive defender (2steals per game). Moreover Hickey is very good defensive rebounder for his size.
Negatives: Hickey’s size can be a problem since he has difficulties finishing at the rim over taller and more athletic guards or shot blockers. Moreover his mid range game could be better. Hickey focuses a lot on 3pts shot especially coming out of ball screens; however in some situations since he can penetrate defense successfully, he should improve and work more on his mid range pull up game, which would make him better offensive player. Defensively he can be better at avoiding screens.
