Cannen Cunningham's Scouting Report

The rookie inks in Poland

Poland

Positives:  Cunningham is long PF/C with good mid range game. Cunningham’s strength is his ability to face up and knock down jumpers from the mid range area. In the half court offense Cunningham spreads the floor really well. Because of his ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter, in ball screen situations he always pops out. Moreover, Cunningham’s strength is his mid range game. If he gets the ball with his back to the basket, he prefers facing up, looking to settle defender’s hands first. He can shoot the ball over defender without making any dribbles, however he is more than capable of putting the ball on the floor and shooting a pull up/floater from 13-15 foot away from the basket.  He is not overly creative off the dribble, however he feels pretty comfortable creating of the high post (not further than this). In the low post, Cunningham has average game with his back to the basket – most of the time he will shoot the ball using his right hand hook shot. He likes catching the ball on the left block, getting to the middle and shooting over his left shoulder. On the rebounding end, he can do much better job, however he can use his length in order to get offensive rebounds. Defensively, he is a decent post defender who can guard players around the rim, using his length to challenge shots.

Negatives:  Cunningham is not overly physical both defensively and offensively. He has to be better finisher through contact around the basket. After he puts the ball on the floor, trying to beat his defender of the dribble, he does not go strong to the basket – he would rather shoot floater or a mid range pull up, than taking it strong all the way to the rim. In the low post, he has to develop his left hand since majority of his shots are from his right hand. He doesn’t have a variety of post moves, and this is something he misses offensively. He has to be tougher and stronger finisher since he is capable of getting to the basket but the lack of physicality and aggressiveness is something he misses. Defensively, he has to work on his lateral speed – he is not able to contain on the perimeter faster PF who can attack of the dribble. Moreover, considering his size and length, Cunningham should be better rebounder on both end of the floor. He has to be more aggressive on the glass using his length and decent athleticism in order to get missed shots.
