Frederick Achilleas Kaimakliou and Intercollege/ETHA added new players to their respective rosters as the both teams look to strengthen prior to the beginning of the new 2009-10 season.
The Kaimakliou team signed two new players in the Serbian power forward Dimitrije Matic and the American-Irish forward Chris Bracey. Matic spent the last three seasons in Bosnia and Herzegovina where he was voted the most improved player of the season in 2008. He does not have any international experience beyond the borders of the ex-Yugoslavia so it will be interesting to observe how he will adopt to the demanding game style in Cyprus. Bracey on the other hand has plenty of international experience as he played in Switzerland, France and Greece. Last two seasons he played with ESTIA Aigaleo in Greek A1 and in 2008-09 he averaged 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 11 outings. The fact that he also holds Irish passport should open an option for Nikolas Papadopoulos to sign an additional American player.
Intercollege/ETHA agreed terms with the American combo guard Alex Wesby who spent the most of his international career playing in Scandinavian countries. The high-scoring guard represented Sundsvall Dragons in the Swedish Basketligan over the last two seasons and throughout the 2008-09 campaign he averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Apart from Sundsvall Dragons for which he also played in 2004-05, Wesby was a member of Joensuun Kataja and ToPo Helsinki, both in the Finnish Korisliiga.
