Eclipse Jet/MyGuide Repeat As FEB Champions
L'EclipseJet vince l'Eredivisie
Sunday afternoon in the deciding game between Eclipse Jet/MyGuide and Eiffel Towers, the FEB trophy remained in Amsterdam for at least another year, as Eclipse Jet/MG were able to capitalize on a comfortable lead and having the necessary resistance and intangibles to prevent Eiffel from making a last moment push, winning Game #7 by the score of 83-71. It was the end of a series what became a sort of a sideshow, laced with protests and controversy over the handing out of the winning prizes. But nonetheless, when it all was said and done, Eclipse Jet/MG were the ones left standing as once again proving themselves as the best team Dutch basketball has to offer. It was the club's third FEB title in six seasons and the seventh title overal.
In a sequel to last season's Game #7 finals, Eclipse Jet/MG ace Teddy Gipson (193-G/F-80, agency: 540 Sports, college: Arkansas) once again stepped up with making big shots in the clutch and a strong start, scoring 13 pts. in the 1st quarter to help stake Eclipse Jet/MG to a 29-18 1st quarter lead, then in the last five minutes coming up with a clutch three-pointer and a layup off a CC Harrison (194-G-76, agency: Court Side, college: N.Carolina St.) to put the game out of reach for Eiffel. Eclipse Jet/MG led at one point in the game by the score of 64-44, kept making it difficult for Eiffel to get witin striking distance. Eiffel could get no closer than within 8 pts. Eclipse Jet/MG also made their free throws (21 of 22 total), were stronger on the boards (40-31 difference), took care of the ball extremely well (only 8 turnovers), and held Eiffel to only 39% FG. Gipson led all scorers with 26 pts., Harrison added 21 and FEB MVP Peter Van Paassen (210-C/F-78, agency: Court Side, college: St.Bonaventure) added a double-double of 14 pts. and 14 rebounds. Taron Downey (186-G-83, college: Wake Forest) led Eiffel in scoring with 23 pts.
