The big man moves to Montenegro

Montenegro
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica found a center to build around in Darko Planinic, who signed a two-year deal with the club. Planinic (2.11 meters, 23 years old) arrives from Cibona Zagreb, where he played on loan from Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv last season. He averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in nine Eurocup games. Planinic helped Cibona win the Adriatic League crown with 8 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest in addition to a league-best 71.8% field goal shooting. He first joined Maccabi on a long-term deal in December 2012, but played just half a season there before going to Cibona. The sides have since dissolved the contract.

Planinic is a product of the KK Siroki Brijeg system. He played three and a half seasons with the club’s senior squad during which he collected four Bosnia and Herzegovina League titles and two Bosnia and Herzegovina Cups. Planinic also won the Israeli Cup. He is a member of the Croatian national team and has also collected bronze medals at the Under-19 World Championships and U-18 European Championships with Croatia.
