Arvydas Macijauskas officially retired

Arvydas Macijauskas gave up the fight. The Lithuanian star decided to retire and announced today his decision due to health problems.

"I have a spinal hernia which needs surgery. In addition, from September 2006 I have problems with the Achilles tendon and my left calf is 2 inches lower than the other" said the guard who started a long legal war with Olympiacos when he returned to Europe after his stint in NBA. The Greek team did not allow Macijauskas to have the surgery.

"In the past I kept silence for a reason because the legal problems with Olympiacos started. I decided to retire because I am not sure I can go back with an operation right now. I would like to stay in sports world and become a coach. Not for money but because I have passion and emotion for basketball" added Macijauskas.

The player started the career with Klaipeda, then moved to Rytas and to Tau Ceramica. In 2005 the big jump to NBA with Hornets (19 games and 2.3ppg). In 2006 Olympiacos brought him back to Europe when officially started his decline.
