Zalgiris re-signs coach Jasikevicius
Zalgiris Kaunas and head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius reached an agreement to keep working together for the next two seasons
Zalgiris Kaunas and head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius reached an agreement to keep working together for the next two seasons, the club announced Friday. Jasikevicius, age 41, led Zalgiris to win back-to-back Lithuanian League titles in his two seasons as head coach. Last season, Jasikevicius led Zalgiris to a 10th-place finish in the new, round-robin Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with a 14-16 record - the club's best result in the competition since 2013 -, collecting as many as eight road wins. He started his coaching career with Zalgiris right after retiring as a player, at the start of the 2014-15 season. Jasikevicius was first appointed as assistant coach but was promoted to Zalgiris' head coach slot in 2016. As a player, Jasikevicius earned EuroLeague legend status. He is the only player in competition history to win the EuroLeague with three different teams - FC Barcelona 2003, Maccabi Tel Aviv 2004, 2005, Panathinaikos Athens 2009 - and the last to lift the trophy in three consecutive seasons, among other highlights.
