VEF Riga keeps Sandis Valters

VEF Riga reached a new agreement with playmaker Sandis Valters to keep him in the team next season. Valters (1.93 meters, 32 years old) is set to enter his third season with the club and has the chance to take it to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague through the Qualifying Rounds. He averaged 13.3 points on 49.5% three-pointer and 2.3 assists in 18 Latvian League titles, helping VEF to lift the trophy. He also led VEF to the Baltic League title game. Valters has also played for Broceni Riga, Skonto Riga and ASK Riga in Latvia, TBB Trier and Wuerzburg in Germany, Azovmash in Ukraine and Imola in Italy. He helped Broceni to win three consecutive Latvian League titles from 1997 to 1999, lifting the trophy again with ASK Riga in 2007. Valters is also a regular member of the Latvian national team. His brother Kristaps also plays professional basketball and inked a two-year deal with Euroleague powerhouse Unicaja earlier this summer.
