Barons are crowned the LBL champions! They held off VEF Riga in the decisive seventh game of the championship series to claim the trophy. Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) knocked down 19 points to lead the hosts.
Barons quickly jumped into the lead. They enjoyed a 15:11 advantage midway through the opening stanza. But VEF Riga cut the margin and trailed by just two points at the first intermission 18:20. However the second frame belonged to the visitors. Barons committed too many mistakes allowing VEF Riga to step in charge. Alex Renfroe (190-G-86, college: Belmont) allowed VEF Riga to take a 34:33 lead at the main break. Barons tipped off the second half with seven straight points to return the lead. Barons maintained the lead and sealed the third quarter outcome at 50:43. Barons boosted the margin at 13-point mark in the fourth stanza. But VEF Riga refused to surrender. They cut the deficit at just three points 68:71 but it was as close as they could get. Barons sealed the game with a 7:3 run and celebrated the title. Rinalds Sirsnins (186-G-85, agency: Promotex) nailed 15 points for Barons. Aigars Vitols (192-G-76, agency: Stanley International) finished with 12 points for the winners. Alex Renfroe answered with 23 points for VEF Riga. Taj McCullough (201-F-86, college: Winthrop) delivered 18 points in the losing effort.
