Hapoel Jerusalem agreed to terms with Ron Steele
The American guard started the season in Italy with Montegranaro
Hapoel Jerusalem has agreed to pickup Sutor Montegranaro guard Ron Steele, according to multiple Israeli reports.
Sources with knowledge of the deal's terms told Sportando that Jerusalem acquired Steele, 26, who hasn't played since February 17th, and is expected to arrive in Israel sometime tomorrow, without paying any buyout fee.
The 6-foot-2 Alabama graduate registered 11 points, 3.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds over 18 Italian League contests. Steele is no stranger to Israeli hoops after playing a pair of seasons for Bnei Hasharon before relocating to Turkey and Italy.
Steele's arrival evidently means Jerusalem will look to shop its Chicago native guard Jacob Pullen, who according to insiders has drawn interest from Italy's Virtus Bologna, his former team Angelico Biella, and a team from Russia.
Pullen, a 23-year-old Kentucky State alumnus, averages 12.6 points shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc in Israeli competition, and 13 points, 2.8 dimes and 2 rebounds per during the team's Eurocup challenge.
Jerusalem (#4 11-8), will continue its 2013-14 battles without 6-foot-8 power forward Uri Kokia (ACL), who is done for the season after playing just seven games. 6'8" big man Elishay Kadir is sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks with a bruised knee.
On the bright side, Hapoel coach Sharon Drucker, 45, was recently nominated as February Coach of the Month, leading Jerusalem to a perfect 3-0 record, recording victories over Herzliya, Holon and Ashkelon. Drucker was also elected by the league to co-coach Team Israel in Israel's All-Star Game on March 18th.
