Despite signing a 2-year contract with Hapoel Jerusalem last summer, point guard Guni Israeli (28, 6'0") was officially released from the club after a one-on-one conversation with Jerusalem head coach Sharon Drucker, team sources exclusively told Sportando.
Last week, Drucker and Jerusalem kicked off their 2012-13 training camp and Israeli received notice not to report to Malha Arena. Acquiring veteran playmaker Meir Tapiro and combo-guard Raviv Limonad, Israeli's services in Hapoel appeared unnecessary.
Sources tell Sportando that Israeli was recently connected to Ironi Ashkelon, though the two sides are yet to undergo contract discussions and are expected to commence them as of tomorrow.
Playing for Jerusalem, the two-time Israeli League champion averaged 4.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in the EuroCup competition, and 4 points, 1.4 boards and 2.6 dimes in the domestic play.
