The Maccabi Bazan Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced today they have agreed to terms with point guard Lior Segev for a two-year contract.

Segev, 29, dominated in the second division last season with Hapoel Kiryat Tivon, posting averages of 19.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and a league-leading 9.2 assists in 12 games played, before signing with Barak Netanya in the first division in January 2012. In 12 games played with Netanya, Segev tallied 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds, while dishing out 3.7 assists. A native of Kiryat Bialik, Segev has played four seasons in the first division of Israel with five different teams and has also spent six seasons in the second division.

“Lior Segev is a significant signing as I know his abilities as a player,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa assistant coach Rami Hadar. “Looking at his career, we believe that Lior will make a strong contribution to the team this season.”

“Lior Segev is a player we’ve been targeting for a year now as he is someone who we feel will make for an excellent role player,” said Maccabi Bazan Haifa owner Jeffrey Rosen.

"Lior will make a great backup point guard for Maccabi Bazan Haifa because of his professional skills, personality and leadership. Lior is also a Haifa native and identifies with the city and its people," said Maccabi Bazan Haifa vice chairman Arnon Shiran.

"I'm happy to join a big club such as Maccabi Bazan Haifa," said Lior Segev. "As a Haifa native and someone whose family lives in Haifa, it's a great privilege to play for this club. I want to thank Jeff Rosen and his staff for this opportunity. I also want to thank Barak Natanya for a wonderful time and the thoughtfulness they showed by releasing me so I could join Maccabi Bazan Haifa."
