The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League today announced that they have signed Maccabi Haifa youth department’s highest ranked point guard prospect, Amit Alon, to a three-year contract beginning next season through the 2020-21 season.

Alon, 18, has led several Maccabi Haifa youth club teams to provincial, national and state championship achievements over the past 10 years. This past season, he appeared in 21 games and averaged 28 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists per game.

A senior at the Reali School, Alon helped guide his high school team to a semifinals appearance of the State Championship. He posted averages of 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in 22 games.

“We’re always happy to see the promotion of a youth player to our senior team,” said Gili Schwarzman, Director General of the Youth Department. “This has become routine in recent years, highlighting the excellent ongoing relationship between the youth department and the professional team. The senior team follows the talented players and the results accordingly. We believe that Amit will continue to progress and develop in the Maccabi Hunter Haifa club.”

“We’re committed to signing the best prospects, particularly those from Haifa and the North,” said Jeff Rosen, Owner, Maccabi Hunter Haifa. “Amit will join Daniel Koperberg and Netanel Artzi next season, who also developed their talents within the Maccabi Haifa youth department.”

A native of Haifa, Israel, Alon has been a member of Israel’s national team for one season.
