Maccabi Haifa signs Willy Workman
The forward inks with Maccabi Haifa
The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team announced today they have signed Israeli-American forward Willy Workman through the 2017-18 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are happy to have Willy join Haifa,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa head coach Offer Rahimi. “He will bring commitment and a fighting spirit, as well as bolster our Israeli line-up.”
Workman, 26, appeared in 33 games (15 starts) for Maccabi Ashdod last season and averaged 3.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. During the 2014-15 season, he played 23 games for Hapoel Tel Aviv while posting 1.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 6.4 minutes.
The 6-foot-6 forward spent the 2013-14 season in the Israeli second division for Hapoel Kazrin/Galil Elion, posting averages of 9.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 28 games.
A native of Northampton, MA, Workman played his collegiate ball at Amherst College from 2009-13. As a senior, he guided his team to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2013.
The team also announced they have assigned guard Amir Celestin to their affiliate Miami Midnites for the 2016-17 season.
