Maccabi Haifa signs Alex Perez
Perez inks in Israel
The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced today they have signed point guard Alex Perez through the 2016-17 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Perez, 22, appeared in 55 contests during the 2015-16 season for Soles de Mexicali in Mexico’s top division and averaged 9.5 points while shooting 34.4 percent from beyond the arc, 4.7 assists (fourth in the league) and 3.4 rebounds in 27.5 minutes per game. He guided Soles de Mexicali to back-to-back LNBP Finals appearances (2014-15 & 2015-16), winning the 2014-15 championship in five games. During the 2014-15 season, Perez earned All-Mexican LNBP 1st team while posting averages of 9.6 points, 5.4 assists (third in the league) and 3.3 rebounds in 35 games for Soles de Mexicali.
“Alex Perez is a rising talent, who is a natural born leader,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa head coach Offer Rahimi. “He has a high basketball I.Q., and brings championship experience to our team.”
“It’s rare to find a young player like Alex who carries himself as a veteran,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa team owner Jeff Rosen. “We’re building a team of hard-nosed players who are going to bring a lot of energy and excitement to the court.”
The 6-foot-3 point guard began his professional career for Soles de Mexicali during the 2013-14 season, tallying 9.8 points, 4.6 assists (third in the league), 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 39 games.
A native of San Diego, California, Perez holds American and Mexican citizenship. As captain of Fresno City College, Perez lifted his team to the 2012 state championship while being named MVP of the Final Four junior college championship and CVC Freshman of the Year.
