Maccabi Haifa signs Leroy Hickerson
The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced today the team has signed guard/forward Leroy Hickerson for the remainder of the 2015-16 season
The Maccabi Hunter Haifa professional basketball team of the Israeli Basketball Super League announced today the team has signed guard/forward Leroy Hickerson for the remainder of the 2015-16 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hickerson, 34, is a 10-year veteran who played with Maccabi Haifa during their 2014 NBA preseason tour, highlighted by his 10-point performance in 14 minutes against the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 22, 2014.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 209-pound guard/forward is a two-time Mexican League Player of the Year winner (2008-09, 2012-13), a three-time Mexican League All-Star M.V.P. and two-time Mexican League Slam-Dunk contest winner. He has played professionally in Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Turkey, Dominican Republic and Canada.
“We are excited to bolster our roster down the stretch with the addition of Leroy Hickerson,” said Maccabi Hunter Haifa owner Jeffrey Rosen. “Leroy is a gifted offensive player, who will bring another dynamic to our team’s offense.”
Prior to a short stint in the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2015, Hickerson won a 2015 championship in Mexico for Dorados de Chihuahua. During the 2013-14 season, Hickerson posted averages of 14.5 points, 5.6 Rebounds and 2.7 assists in 37 games for Halcones Rojos de Veracruz in Mexico’s top division. He appeared in 17 games for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rico’s top division in the spring of 2013, and averaged 19.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 33.8 minutes.
As a member of Halcones UV Xalapa in Mexico’s top division during the 2012-13 season, Hickerson guided his team to a Mexican League Finals appearance against former Haifa star, Ike Ofoegbu’s team, Toros De Nuevo Laredo. He appeared in 54 games for Xalapa and averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 34.0 minutes. In the six-game Mexican League championship series, Hickerson tallied 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 36.6 minutes.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Hickerson played finished college career at NAIA Cumberland University (Tennessee) from 2003-05 after spending one season at Motlow State Community College in 2001-02, where he averaged 20.2 points (12th all-time single season record), and accumulated 226 rebounds (11th all-time single season record) in 28 games played.
