Derwin Kitchen and Hapoel Jerusalem are headed to FIBA court over contract dispute, as reported by One.

During the summer of 2014, Jerusalem signed Kitchen – then, a star point guard in Israel – to a guaranteed contract extension for the upcoming season, plus an option for the 2016/2017 season.

However, on December, Kitchen sustained a fractured foot and missed three-months of action. According to sources, the Israeli club are holding it against him with intentions of terminating the existing agreement.

According to insiders at the NBA summer league, Jerusalem have been lobbying Kitchen and informing free-agent guards that the Kitchen isn’t retuning to Israel.
Jerusalem officials and Kitchen's agent, Terrance Doyle of Comsport Management, were spotted in dialogue in Las Vegas.

Kitchen was the starting point guard for Jerusalem and led Hapoel to the preseason title in a blowout victory over domestic power-club Maccabi Tel Aviv, and secured the league's No. 1 seed.

He returned to action in March and averaged 12.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists during a stretch against three seeded playoffs teams.

Jerusalem claim that Kitchen hasn’t recovered from his injury, while an MRI scan performed by the medical staff at Florida State University indicates otherwise. According to sources, Hapoel are unwilling to meet a buyout agreement and offered Kitchen a one-month check as a settlement.

Given that an agreement can't be reached, both parties seem to be headed to FIBA court.

Jerusalem and Doyle both declined to comment.
