Maccabi Haifa signs Gregory Vargas, keeps Rene Rougeau
The Israeli team is very active on the market
The Maccabi Bazan Haifa professional basketball team announced today they have signed point guard Gregory Vargas for the 2015-16 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Vargas, 29, guided Marinos de Anzoategui to a Venezuelan LPB championship this June, appearing in 35 regular season games and averaged 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and a league-leading 7.8 assists per game while shooting 38.4 percent (43-of-112) from three-point land in 29.5 minutes per contest. He earned Latinbasket.com Guard of the Year and Domestic Player of the Year for his All-Star campaign with Marinos de Anzoategui.
The 6-foot point guard was named LPB Finals MVP after a dominant performance in the five-game Finals, posting averages of 15.2 points and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 58.5 percent (10-of-17) from downtown, including a double-double in the first game of the series with 11 points and 11 assists.
