Maccabi Tel Aviv announces Aleks Maric

The big man moves to Israel

Reigning Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv added a force inside with the signing of center Aleks Maric, who arrives from Lokomotiv Kuban of Russia. Maric (2.11 meters, 29 years old) averaged 6.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.6 blocks over 17 minutes in 23 Euroleague games last season. In his four Euroleague campaigns to date, Maric has been to three Final Fours and won the 2011 Euroleague with Panathinaikos Athens after beating Maccabi in the title game in Barcelona. He was named to the All-Euroleague First Team as a rookie in 2010 after leading Partizan Belgrade to the Final Four in Paris. In his only season outside the Euroleague in five years, Maric helped Lokomotiv win the 2013 Eurocup.

Maric’s best season in the Euroleague was his first, in which he averaged 14.6 points on 61.6% two-point shooting and 8.4 rebounds in his lone campaign with Partizan. He then spent two seasons with Panathinaikos before moving to Lokomotiv for two years. Maric has won the Adriatic, Serbian and Greek league titles and Serbian and Greek Cups, too. Maric had previously played for CB Granada in Spain after finishing his college career at the University of Nebraska. He has also been a member of the Australian national team and played at the 2012 Olympic Games with the Boomers.
