Hector Hernandez signs with Maccabi Haifa

Maccabi Bazan Haifa, the 2013-14 Israeli Basketball Super League runner-up, announced today they have signed power forward Hector Hernandez for the 2014-15 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hernandez, 29, played this summer in Puerto Rico’s top division for San German, appearing in 23 games and averaged 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent from beyond the arc in 21.3 minutes. He began the season in Mexico’s top division for Pioneros de Quintana Roo, appearing in 54 games and posted averages of 14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 35.6 percent from downtown in 33.1 minutes.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound power forward is currently playing for the Mexican national team in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. In Mexico’s first game against Lithuania, Hernandez recorded 5 points and 4 rebounds.
Prior to the FIBA World Cup, the Chihuahua, Mexico native has participated in 7 FIBA competitions, spanning from 2007-2014. Over that time period, Hernandez averaged 7.5 points and 5.4 rebounds, guiding his Mexican teams to three Gold medals (2014 Centrobasket Championship, 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, and the 2013 COCABA Championship).
A graduate of Fresno State, Hernandez played four years for the Bulldogs from 2004-2008. In his senior season at Fresno State, he appeared in 32 games and averaged 9.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 32.2 minutes per game.
