Guy Pnini extends with Maccabi Tel Aviv
The guard signs a 2+1 deal
Reigning Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv has made sure to keep its captain in uniform. The club announced Wednesday that it has agreed to terms with Guy Pnini on a new multi-year deal. The contract is for two seasons with an option for a third year. Pnini (2.01 meters, 30 years old) started 20 games for Maccabi last season in helping the club win its sixth continental crown at the Final Four in Milan. He was called upon to lift the Euroleague trophy alongside David Blu after Maccabi outlasted Real Madrid in overtime in the championship game. For the season Pnini averaged 5.6 points on 41.3% three-point shooting plus 1.8 assists in less than 19 minutes per game. It was his fifth straight season with Maccabi.
Pnini is a product of the Maccabi youth system, though he did not debut for the senior side until he was 26. He had made his professional debut at Maccabi Raanana in 2001 and also played for Bnei Hasharon and Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel as well as FMP in Serbia and Keravnos in Cyprus. Pnini made his Euroleague debut with Maccabi in 2009 and has been a fixture in Tel Aviv ever since. In addition to winning the Euroleague, his trophy case includes three Israeli League championships, seven Israeli Cup –two of which were won with Jerusalem – and on Adriatic League crown. Pnini has also been a regular with the Israeli national team.
