Raheem Appleby's Scouting Report

Positives:  Appleby is scoring combo guard who has decent mid range game. He can play on and off the ball and he is scoring oriented player who can put decent numbers if defense is not focused. Appleby is good shooter from behind the 3pt line – he likes shooting from spot up situations or pulling up off the dribble. He is not that consistent from long range, however can get off and does not hesitate to shoot the ball even if he missed previous shots. Appleby is crafty ball handler who looks for angles in order to get in the gaps. He likes using ball screens, especially on the side of the floor, and he looks to score coming off pick. Appleby is really good from the mid range area. He likes using his mid range pull up jumper (he is good shooting from his left hand) and can be pretty effective, especially coming off ball screen and attack defender who guards ball screen. He is not shy of shooting the ball and wants to attack every time he has space. In situations when he gets in the paint, he likes shooting floaters over big guys, and he has shown a decent touch. Defensively he is an average on ball defender whoever he can get better in this segment.

Negatives: Appleby’s lack of strength is exposed in certain situations defensively and offensively. In the half court offense, he is not great finisher around the rim. He can get in the paint using his creativity, however he is not good at finishing through contact and taking the ball all the way to the rim, which is why he shots floaters. Length and strength bothers him and he has to be stronger and more physical in duels. With this being said, even though he has decent speed he still has to work on sliding his feet better laterally. Moreover, lack of strength and physicality is noticeable when stronger guards attack him off the dribble.
